Tap Simulator: Reborn Pet Team Guide: How to Equip Pets and Use Pet Slots

Learn how to equip, replace, and remove pets in Tap Simulator: Reborn — open the pet inventory, run Equip Best, and grow beyond the four-slot starter team.

Tap Simulator: Reborn manages your entire pet team from one place: the on-screen pet inventory panel. There is no keyboard shortcut for it, so you open it by clicking, then equip or unequip pets one at a time — or let the Equip Best button fill the lineup for you. A free-to-play account starts with four equip slots, and both gamepasses and normal play can raise that. This guide walks through the full loop: opening the inventory, swapping pets, removing them safely, growing your slots, and what your team actually does for your income.

Open the pet inventory — there is no hotkey

Your team lives in the pet inventory, reached through the pet button on the on-screen interface. One player notes that "there is no hot key to open up your pet inventory, which is a little bit unfortunate," so expect to click into it every time you want to change your team rather than tapping a key.

The inventory doubles as your team status screen. It shows the combined power of your equipped pets and how much storage space you have left — a walkthrough player asks how many pets he can equip in total and reads both figures straight off the panel. Those two numbers answer different questions: team power tells you how strong your lineup is, while the storage count tells you how close your inventory is to full.

How equipped pets appear around your character is purely cosmetic. In settings you can hide pets entirely or choose a formation — "all around you, behind, or in rows." Changing this affects nothing about your income; it only changes what you see.

Equip and replace pets — manually or with Equip Best

Manual swaps. Inside the inventory, pets are equipped and unequipped individually. Players reshape whole teams this way, one pet at a time: one unequips an entire lineup he dislikes and builds a replacement ("we're going to unequipped this one. Equipped another golden"), and a fresh day-one account unequips its starter and re-equips a four-pet team. Taking a pet off the team this way does not delete it — it just returns the pet to storage.

Equip Best. The Equip Best button auto-fills your team, and in live play it comes with three sorts: "you can sort by best for egg luck, best for clicks, or for gems." Pick the sort that matches what you're grinding — clicks for coin income, gems if you're saving for gem upgrades, egg luck if you're hunting rare hatches.

Run Equip Best after every hatching or crafting session that produces something stronger. Players do this reflexively: "once we claim and then equip the best. And now we have literally a whole team of super overpowered pets." Another hatches three new pets, presses it, and finds that "even the worst one is double our best from last last set of pets we had."

Equip Best understands enchants. It is not a raw-power sort: "the equip best in this game is actually smart. It actually takes into account like the different boosts that they have." One player deliberately keeps a slightly weaker pet equipped because its Golden Touch enchant yields far more golden pets while hatching — at eight eggs per hatch, even a 2% golden chance roughly compounds to a 16% chance per roll. So don't panic if Equip Best leaves a pet in place that looks weaker on paper; the button is weighing what the pet does, not just its base stat.

One caution on button labels: a pre-release testing server showed separate options described as "equip best gems, gem pet, coin pet, and then I guess your best luck." That build predates the live game, where players see the clicks/gems/egg-luck sorts instead. The equip menu can change between builds, so glance at it after game updates to confirm the current options.

New pets must earn their place. Team membership is merit-based: a freshly hatched or crafted pet only joins the lineup when it beats a current member. Players see this constantly — an epic hatch "doesn't make our team anymore because these golds are so OP," a diamond pet gets in because "it has 4k," and other players note that only one pet from a whole egg's results made their team, or that a hatch didn't "join the team yet" because the team is already diamond-tier. If a hatch doesn't change your team, that's the expected behavior, not a bug.

Remove pets without losing team members

Removal happens at two levels, and it's worth keeping them straight:

  1. Delete (individual, permanent). Selecting a pet and deleting removes it from the game entirely, behind a confirm step: "We're going to delete. Confirm." Use this for specific pets you're certain you'll never want.
  2. Clean-up (bulk, protective). The inventory also has a dedicated clean-up feature for mass deletion. As one player describes it: "It keeps always your locked, equipped, golden, leveled, enchanted, and best two of each pet. Then we can select the pets we want to delete by rarity... and then we can press long to delete, like a mass delete." Equipped pets survive the sweep by design.

To take a pet off your team without destroying it, use unequip instead — deletion and unequipping are separate actions.

Make cleanup a habit. Creators advise that you should "always clean your inventory because sooner or later you know the inventory going to get full." How much storage you have varies by account and progression: observed totals include 100, 150, 355, and 425 slots at different points in different players' accounts, so don't treat any one of those as a universal value. Index completion adds storage too — one player whose index passed the halfway mark saw his total pet storage reach 425, an increase of 75.

Pet slots: how many pets you can equip

Your equipped team starts at four. A free-to-play player states it plainly — "We have four pets equipped off of free-to-play with also 150 pet storage" — and a separate walkthrough independently asks how many pets he can equip and answers four.

Beyond that base, slots grow in two ways:

  • Buying slots. The shop sells two equip gamepasses: "Plus one pet equip, 249. Plus three pet equip, 749" Robux. A player running every pet gamepass reports "I can equip plus five pets" and then grinds nine Cerberus to fill the enlarged team. If you're weighing a purchase, our gamepasses page breaks the shop down further.
  • Earning slots through play. Free progression adds slots too. Two different players reach five equipped pets without buying anything — one notices it mid-session: "Oh, we got another pet equip. I didn't even notice. So, we're at five now." Neither video names the exact trigger, so treat any specific milestone claim as unconfirmed rather than assuming slots unlock automatically at fixed points.

The flip side is just as observable: without the gamepass, extra equips simply don't happen. One player expects to equip more pets, checks the menu, and realizes "I didn't get more pet equipped... I literally didn't buy this one." No source states a hard maximum team size, and added-slot totals differ between accounts, so check your own inventory panel to see where your limit currently sits.

What equipped pets actually do

Equipped pets are your main income multiplier: "Pets are useful since each one multiplies your tapping power, which means every click earns more." More pets and stronger pets mean more coins per tap, which compounds into faster islands and rebirths.

Your combined team value is displayed as team power, and it moves immediately when you swap pets. Players show it at "up to 575 times" with a full team of their strongest pets, at "19 million team power" on a leaderboard account, and equipping three shiny pets "doubled our team power." That number is your success check: after any equip, unequip, or Equip Best, the team power figure should reflect the change.

One leaderboard note with a caveat: a player chasing the global rankings says that "since Robux pets don't count towards your leaderboards" he deliberately removed them from his team. That's one creator's commentary from his own account, not a confirmed rule — but if you're grinding the pet-power leaderboards, it's a reason to double-check what your team composition is doing to your standing.

Practical takeaways for building your lineup

  • After every hatch or craft session, press Equip Best with the sort that matches your goal — clicks for coins, gems for gem income, egg luck for rare hatches like secrets (see our egg hatching guide and how to hatch secret pets guides).
  • Don't hand-delete a slightly weaker enchanted pet if you hatch a lot — Equip Best may be keeping it for a reason, as with Golden Touch.
  • Run the clean-up tool regularly rather than deleting one by one; equipped, locked, golden, leveled, and enchanted pets are protected automatically.
  • Keep team slots and storage separate in your head. Buying the +1/+3 equip passes doesn't add inventory space, and cleaning your inventory doesn't change your team.
  • Unsure what a pet on your team is or where it came from? Check the pet list to identify it. And if you're after which pets are objectively strongest across the whole roster, that ranking lives on the pet tier list — this page is about using the team system itself.

If you're spending Robux on extra slots, it's also worth checking the current codes page for free boosts before you buy. Since equip menus, slot limits, and storage rewards have all been observed to differ between builds and accounts, re-verify what your own inventory shows after each game update.
